Guy Vasilovich was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and raised in Wheaton, where an early passion for both music and art began to take shape. Immersed in sound from a young age, Guy pursued music extensively, performing in orchestras, concert ensembles, stage musicals, as well as jazz and rock bands. The discipline and intensity of the music world left a lasting impression.
Guy recalls, “The music world demanded late and long hours. During the day, I would relax by sketching and painting in my sketchbooks.” What began as a creative release soon evolved into a parallel calling. His drawings and paintings became increasingly refined, revealing a strong sense of composition, rhythm, and storytelling—qualities deeply influenced by his musical background.
Guy’s growing portfolio caught the attention of Disney, who recognized his visual voice and recommended him to CalArts (California Institute of the Arts) in Valencia, California where he studied animation. He began his professional art career at Walt Disney Animation, designing layouts for their animated movies “The Fox and the Hound” and “The Black Cauldron” and was promoted to art director for “The Great Mouse Detective.”
Over time time Guy moved on as an independent writer, director, producer and designer for
feature films, television and theme parks. He created the popular animated series: “Moville
Mysteries” and “Iggy Arbuckle.” and co-created the popular syndicated comic strip, “When I Was Short” for King Features Syndicate. His children’s book,” 13 Nights of Halloween,” with HarperCollins Publishing continues to be a top seller.
Fine Art Career
While active in film and television, Guy continued his fine art work as a Disney licensed artist
appearing at Disney theme parks and events. Today he devotes most of his time and talent to
his paintings enjoying the freedom of crafting a visual story through line, shape, color, and
composition. His experience in the entertainment arenas have provided him with creating and
performing at a high level. Guy comments, “I approach fine art the way a composer approaches music: establish a theme, explore variations, control the tempo, and use color dynamics to guide the eye—always in service of emotion and entertainment.”
Guy works in acrylics and mixed media. His bold, vibrant color palette, his aggressive,
precision brush strokes textures, formulated compositions and playful textures gives character
and a sense of entertainment to his canvasses.
His unique vision persistently finds humor and reality from life’s experiences. His style is
uniquely mischievous, bold and proficient Now he shares his private work and stories
